Blue Litter Project relaunches for a new phase
Following the success of the original Blue Litter Project, we are delighted to launch a new phase, helping tackle litter and plastic pollution across Cornwall's coastlines, waterways and marine environments.
The project continues to support volunteers, community groups and organisations working to remove litter from beaches, harbours, rivers and other blue spaces, while gathering valuable data about the types of waste being found and where it is coming from.
As part of the relaunch, new specialist equipment is being distributed to groups across Cornwall, including litter sieves, collection trolleys, PPE, scales and other resources designed to support safe and effective clean-up activities. New hubs and partner organisations have also joined the project, helping to expand its reach and impact.
The latest phase also introduces improved monitoring and reporting tools, allowing volunteers to record not only the amount of litter collected, but also important information about plastic pollution and marine debris. This data will help build a clearer picture of the challenges facing Cornwall's coastal environments and support future action.
To help identify litter hotspots and hard-to-reach areas, the project has also invested in a new drone. Members of the Clean Cornwall team have undertaken specialist training to ensure the drone can be used safely and effectively to monitor coastlines and support future clean-up efforts.
The Blue Litter Project demonstrates the power of community action in protecting Cornwall's coast and waterways. By working together, we can reduce the impact of marine litter, protect wildlife and help keep our blue spaces clean for future generations.
