Plastic Education

The Clean Cornwall team has been back in the classroom, bringing our interactive workshop to local students to learn more about litter and waste in Cornwall.

We’ve been upping our education game over the past few months, bringing important insights to local students on the unique challenges their environment faces and how they can be a part of the solution. In January we visited Cornwall College, inviting the students to take on our reusable litter-picking bag project, encouraging the use of innovation and creativity to make recycling litter that is collected easier and minimise plastic waste.

We were impressed yet again by the pupils’ extensive knowledge of the climate crisis and the extent of plastic pollution, and their willingness to learn more about how we can tackle this issue as a community. We discussed how lifestyle can drastically affect your impact on the environment, and agreed that although individuals cannot be solely blamed for the immense scale of environmental destruction, we can certainly change our behaviour and mindset to make sustainability a priority in our local community.

A few weeks later, we visited Treleigh school in Redruth and learnt about everything they had been doing already to tackle litter and waste and then in May we then dropped into Sennen Community Primary Academy with our hands-on litter session followed by a litter pick on the school grounds and nearby footpaths, it was a really motivating and inspiring day.

We have had loads of requests for our litter and waste educational packs from schools across Cornwall and many schools and colleges have organised their own litter picks with our help.

Thank you to all those who have engaged with us and we look forward to visiting many more schools with our fun-filled workshops over the coming months and years.
